Foreign Language Proficiency Test
|
The FLPT is a general language proficiency test
developed and administered by the Language Training and Testing Center
(LTTC). It incorporates listening, usage, vocabulary, reading, and
speaking components, and is given monthly in English,
Japanese,
French, German, and
Spanish. This test is suitable for adult learners
at the tertiary level of education, aged over 18.
The FLPT contains a 130-minute multiple-choice
section for listening, usage, and vocabulary and reading, as well as
a 15-minute free-response section for speaking. The first section is
paper-based and machine-scored; the second section is tape-recorded
and scored by trained evaluators on a holistic scale.
The FLPT has been administered since 1965 and
is currently used by more than 400 public and private institutions
as an element in decision-making processes related to job promotion
and overseas training or assignments. The test users include the Ministry of Education,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Teacher Education
Program of National Taiwan University, Taiwan Power Company, Chunghwa Telecom , and many public and private banks.
