  American humorist Ogden Nash describes two paths to happiness. On the first, one has done nothing to regret, and thus has a clear conscience. On the second, one lacks a moral center and gives no thought to the consequences of one’s actions or how they affect others. Nash implies that happiness is an elusive goal, since most of us are caught in between these two extremes.
