Prof. Lia Plakans Gives Lecture on Integrated Writing Assessment

本中心邀請美國愛荷華大學Lia Plakans教授舉辦語言測驗與教學專題演講,主題為《整合式寫作評量》。本演講於4月21日下午假臺灣大學應用力學館舉行,約60人參與,包含本中心測驗專業同仁、大專校院相關領域研究生,及各級英語教師。

Plakans 教授具多年英語教學經驗,專長領域為語言測驗,語言教師培育,及第二語言閱讀與寫作。Plakans教授研究有成,曾在許多國際重要期刊發表研究,例如:TESOL Quarterly、Language Testing、Journal of Second Language Writing,以及Language Assessment Quarterly。重要著作包含:Applying Second Language Results to Language (2014)、Reading and Writing for Academic Success (2013)。

本場演講中,Plakans教授首先簡要介紹目前整合式寫作評量的研究重點與方向。此外,在了解全民英檢高級寫作測驗(為整合式寫作測驗)的內容後,Plakans教授對本測驗的題型及評分量表的設計表示肯定。隨後,Plakans教授以自己對ETS托福寫作測驗的研究為例,說明整合式寫作評量分數的效度,並分別闡述此分數在學習者閱讀、寫作,及使用訊息來源 (source use)能力三個面向所代表的意義。閱讀能力方面,研究發現高分者能使用較多整體式的閱讀與寫作策略(global strategies);而低分者則僅能使用較基礎的策略,如字彙理解,且無法選擇有效的閱讀策略。寫作能力方面,高分者的作文在流利度、語言使用的正確度與組織架構的表現皆佳;而低分者的作文普遍較短、文法錯誤較多,且組織不完整。訊息來源的使用(source use)方面,高分者在聽力與閱讀兩種訊息來源中,使用較多聽力訊息,且能改寫重要的訊息融入作文裡;相反的,低分者多仰賴閱讀訊息,且多直接將訊息抄寫至作文中。

本專題演講的內容有益於整合式寫作測驗的研製以及寫作教學。演講尾聲聽眾提出許多深入的問題,現場討論熱烈。Plakans教授對聽眾的高水準印象深刻,與會者亦咸認收穫良多。
