Prof. Rainbow Chen Holds Workshop on Designing Teaching Materials on Intercultural Communication

在全球化社會中,「批判性思考」、「跨文化知能」、與「語言溝通力」是各級教育重視培養的關鍵能力。在英語教學領域中,教師最常面臨的挑戰是如何找到難度適合、同時能激發思考的英語教材。有鑑於此,本中心於5月27日(週一)下午舉辦第四場語言教學工作坊,邀請政治大學外文中心陳彩虹教授,以「培養思考力與跨文化力之語言教材設計」為題,分享其多年在此領域的教材設計及教學心得。

陳教授首先指出,其實我們的生活中時時刻刻都在做決定,但藉由批判性思考,我們可作出更為合理的決定。她接著以一段影片,說明以批判性思考作出決定時會經歷的5個步驟,包括有系統地提出問題、詢求他人意見、運用已知訊息、設想後果、以及從不同觀點思考。

陳教授接著以為大一新生設計的「在別人身上看見自己」專題教案為例,詳細解釋如何使用「文化短片」為教學資源,培養學生批判思考能力。此教案採用的三段YouTube短片(“What kind of Asian are you?”、“Are Asian students smarter?”、“Parents react to the child race doll test”) 分別探討種族多元化、東西方學習文化差異、及種族偏見的議題,內容深度夠且具爭議性,語言難度合適,長度皆於10 分鐘之內。陳教授並刻意選擇至少一部涉及亞洲學生的短片,希望透過與學生生活相關的內容,引發其思考核心議題並反思自身文化。

關於作業問題的設計,陳彩虹教授有感於中小學教師常有過度使用「知識性」問題的傾向,往往忽略了訓練學生較高層次的思考能力,因此建議利用布魯姆六個層次的認知教學目標(Bloom’s Taxonomy)作為設計問題的引導,並舉例說明每個層次不同的問題形式。教師在設計問題的同時也需考慮問題是否適合學生的程度,學生能回答的問題才是能激發思考的好問題。

本場工作坊吸引近60位教師參加,除大專院校教師外,亦不乏中小學教師,陳彩虹教授鼓勵教師們靈活運用短片類教材,可改變作業形式(如以口說方式代替寫作、讓學生提出問題等)以適合學生程度。在整場工作坊中,參加教師不斷與陳教授討論互動,會後他們紛紛表示工作坊內容豐富,充滿腦力激盪,讓他們深獲啟發,收穫良多。
