The 2026 Public Lecture on "Trauma-Informed Teaching and Learning in the Second-Language Classroom" Concludes Triumphantly
The 2026 Public Lecture, jointly organized by The Language Training and Testing Center (LTTC), Fulbright Taiwan, and the Professor Li-Lien Chao Cultural and Educational Foundation, successfully concluded on the afternoon of June 28 at the International Conference Hall of the National Central Library. The event drew over a hundred English teachers from various educational levels, educators, and enthusiastic readers, creating a highly engaging atmosphere for professional exchange.

The lecture centered on the theme "Trauma-Informed Teaching and Learning in the Second-Language Classroom." To open the event, Professor Hsin-Ying Li, CEO of LTTC and Chairperson of the Professor Li-Lien Chao Cultural and Educational Foundation, delivered the welcoming remarks, setting the stage for an inspiring session that balanced pedagogical expertise with emotional support.

In-Depth Feature: Dr. Randall L. Nadeau Decodes Language Anxiety and "Silence"
The first half of the event featured a compelling keynote address by Dr. Randall L. Nadeau, Executive Director of Fulbright Taiwan. Approaching the topic through the fresh lens of "Trauma-Informed" education, Dr. Nadeau guided the audience in reinterpreting the anxiety mechanisms underlying foreign language learning. He pointed out that student "silence" in the classroom is rarely a mere lack of motivation; rather, it often manifests as a psychological defense mechanism.
In his presentation, he particularly emphasized the need to reframe how we view "errors" and to return assessment to its true purpose—measuring student progress and growth rather than inducing fear. Through Dr. Nadeau’s insightful yet accessible guidance, attendees were empowered to redefine classroom interactions and learn how to use a more empathetic approach to cultivate a safe, highly trusted learning environment.

Cross-Level Practical Dialogue: Diverse Teaching Wisdom from Elementary to University
The practical panel discussion in the second half was chaired by LTTC CEO Professor Hsin-Ying Li. Four outstanding frontline English educators from different academic tiers were invited to share their insights, followed by a joint panel discussion with Dr. Nadeau:
- Ms. Cindy Chia-Hui Shen — Taipei Municipal Tianmu Elementary School
- Professor Wesley Xi — National Taiwan University
- Ms. Ruby Jing-rong Loh — National Taipei University of Business
- Ms. Jessica Chia-Chun Cheng — New Taipei Municipal Banqiao Senior High School
The four panelists shared extensive classroom experience addressing the core points: motivating students, reducing learning anxiety, and building student confidence. They generously shared their expertise, offering warm, actionable, and highly practical strategies—including psychological guidance and confidence-building techniques—tailored for students from elementary school through university.

Enthusiastic Responses with Near-100% Satisfaction
A post-event survey revealed an exceptional satisfaction rate approaching 100%. Attendees noted that Dr. Nadeau’s keynote was profoundly inspiring and directly addressed classroom realities, while the practical sharing from the four educators served as a timely resource tailored to daily teaching needs. During the final panel discussion, the audience and speakers engaged in a half-hour bilingual Q&A session characterized by deep, focused, and highly professional exchanges.
We extend our gratitude to all participating educators. Moving forward, LTTC will continue to host diverse, high-quality academic and public welfare initiatives, walking hand-in-hand with Taiwan's English educators to foster a more resilient and supportive language-learning landscape.
