GEPT Intermediate Level Speaking Test
Rating Scale

Band Score Description
5 Clearly intelligible pronunciation; natural and correct intonation; responses flow smoothly, and are properly relevant to questions; adequate vocabulary; good control of grammar; errors rare, and do not interfere with communication.
4 Generally intelligible pronunciation; intonation generally natural and correct; generally appropriate responses; occasional errors in grammar and vocabulary which do not interfere with communication.

1 Many serious errors in pronunciation and intonation. Because the examinee makes many grammar mistakes, and only recognizes very simple vocabulary, he cannot express himself clearly. Examinee has little ability to communicate in English.
